Africa Day marks the anniversary of a pivotal moment in the continent’s history, the formation of the Organization of African Unity (OAU) on May 25, 1963, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
Thirty-two independent African nations came together under the vision of leaders like Kwame Nkrumah (Ghana), Haile Selassie (Ethiopia), and Julius Nyerere (Tanzania) to form a unified body that would promote political freedom, cooperation, and economic progress across Africa.

In 2002, the OAU was succeeded by the African Union (AU), which continues to drive the vision of a strong, integrated, and prosperous Africa.
